After Michael completed his highly successful Off The Wall LP, he went back to Quincy Jones for his follow up. He had an idea for the song s video that would pay tribute to the great classic horror films and set about putting it together. It became the title track of his new LP and the centerpiece of his strategy. Vincent Price was tapped to provide a rap since he was the king of the type of horror films Michael liked. However in the final release, one verse of his rap was removed. The song was released on November 12, 1983 a little late for Halloween. A mini movie video production by John Landis was completed and put out on December 2, 1983. It eventually peaked at, 4 on the Hot 100 in early 1984. The video for Thriller also included a Making of video that satisfied the fans who wanted to see more.
