We often think of effort as physical action, but most of our exertions are mental. Practicing no effort means letting everything be as it is, without poking, prodding, adding, or subtracting. Imagine your thoughts covered in oil, too slippery to hold onto, passing as soon as they arrive. Allow everything that arises to simply arise. Remember how impossible it is to catch bubbles. Let your inner eruptions rise to the surface, float, and pop, reconfiguring their information into the whole once again. Weve all felt the tension and resistance when were not heard or seen, unable to express ourselves. And the relief when we are heard, seen, and allowed to expresseverything softens, resistance melts, and ease follows. Accepting our inner self is much the same. When something arises, if we can sit with it, embodying the qualities of the sunwarm, penetrating, nourishing, nonjudgmentalthen the knots within us have a chance to be seen, heard, and felt.
