Why copyright makes no sense, The case against intellectual property
Criticism of copyright laws and patents is a taboo but it shouldn t be. With initially good intentions, copyright and patent laws are concentrating more and more profit and power within the hands of right holders, which in most cases is big corporations, labels and studios. It s dangerous to free speech and privacy in the Age of the Internet. Copyright is unlike any other right. It gives the class of authors supreme position over the rest of society, while treating everyone else as criminals when they want to exercise their free speech and property rights to the full extent. Copyright is the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute someones work. Its the right to make copies of a protected work, hence copyright. Patents are government protections on improvements and inventions in devices and processes.
