Ma Knows (1929)

Intertitle asks: Ever tried to contrast those oldtime modes with the latest in millinery C, U of four women wearing antiquated wigs and old fashioned hats. Their hair is ringleted and one woman wears a white Marie Antoinette style wig. The girls turn to show off their hats. They smile broadly at the camera. Queer how fashion treads the same road as years C, U of two girls modelling old fashioned hats, they chat and laugh. By means of a camera trick they appear suddenly to be wearing modern hats cloche style. Ask Ma she C, U of a woman s feet, camera pans up her legs she is sitting on a sofa. Camera continues to tilt until we see the model s face and hat. Temptation intertitle is followed by a woman tempting her friend with a cigarette, the friend pushes it away. Eventually she succumbs and has a puff. She then coughs. She is presumably supposed to be the old fashioned girl of yesteryear whereas the modern girl of the 20s smokes with abandon. Was item in Eve s
