Bed Testers (1960)
M, S of bed testing equipment; a wooden block with a mattress base inside, two large black mummyshaped figures suspended over the base and attached to equipment at the side and a large weight suspended over one side. Two men in brown coats hoist a mattress onto the base and lower the figures onto it. C, U of a large clock showing the amount of years wear the mattress is being tested for then M, S of the two figures turning over and over on the mattress; they are rotated by two large metal arms at the end of the bed. M, S and C, U of the weight at the side of the mattress being raised and lowered; commentator says to represent a 12 stone man sitting on the edge to put his socks on. M, S of the end of the mattress showing the machinery working to rotate the figures; commentator tells us that Tommy and Tess (as the figures are known) each weigh 12 stone.
