Tie Collecting Aka Tie Cutting AKA Tie Collector (1955)
Oxford, Oxfordshire. M, Ss of the exterior of a pub, The Bear Inn. Inside, at the bar, we see landlord Alan Course examining the tie of Chris Higham (top high jumper of Wadham College, Oxford); another man at the bar shows Chris his tie has had the end snipped off. Alan snips the end of Chris tie off as commentator explains he collects ties for a hobby and none is more valuable than this snippet of the British team tie from the 1954 Vancouver Empire Games. Chris is rewarded with a free beer for his sacrifice; he signs his name on a little label Alan pins to the tie then Alan adds it to his collection of tie ends hanging on the wall.
