13. Understanding Election Polls

An unscientific poll is one where respondents are chosen unsystematically, usually by some method other than random selection. In contrast, a scientific poll is one where respondents are a random sample of the population. This way, you can generalize from the sample to the wider population and make strong claims about respondent attitudes.
