International Mother Language Day 2021 at the University of Reading
Public event cohosted by the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM) and the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing (CBCP) celebrating International Mother Language Day at the University of Reading, 22 February 2021. Dr Sophie Heywood illustrates how the global upheaval caused by the protest movements of 1968 fuelled an explosion of experimentation and creativity in childrens literature. By tracing the journey of Where the Wild Things Are as it travelled across different countries, she explores the crucial role that translations and cultural exchange played in the childrens 68.
