Officer Shoots at Fleeing Driver While it Dragged Another Officer
(Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Las Cruces, New Mexico The Las Cruces Police Department released body camera footage that shows the moments leading up to an officerinvolved shooting, that occurred Feb. 3, 2021 near 1900 N. Solano Dr. . Police officials said 28yearold Joel Orozco was speeding and driving erratically. The officer learned that Orozco had warrants for his arrest. Orozco refused to get out of the truck and police officials said he started to drive away, dragging the officer. The second responding officer then opened fire. Police officials said Orozco was able to drive off but crashed. He and two passengers ran away. One of the passengers was a woman in the back seat who was shot in the leg during the process. Orozco was later arrested. Investigators said they found a loaded handgun in his vehicle. The officer who was dragged suffered a broken leg. The shooting is under investigation which is standard.
