Why are Hollywood movies falling out of favor in China

China s movie market has a robust start in 2024 with a strong Spring Festival performance. The box office returns of the eightday Lunar New Year holiday exceeded 8 billion yuan, or about billion. Domestic titles lead the chart, most of which are comedies. In fact, in 2023, no Hollywood movie has squeezed into the top 10 earners in China, which only happened once during the COVID19 pandemic back in 2020.
