And he encourages you to donate to his charity, The Fund. The fund, or Kids In Need of Desks, is the brainchild of Lawrence O Donnell, host of The Last Word on MSNBC. As I ve said before I m chemically addicted to television news, and I heard him announce this charity about a year ago. The simplicity of it inspired me. And that it was something which hadn t crossed my mind children without desks. The way we can best leverage our efforts in subsaharan Africa (really, anywhere underdeveloped) is by removing all obstacles in the way of primary and secondary education. A lack of desks is one problem among many, but perhaps a good way to start. Create an environment which fosters learning from the ground up, literally.
