Volvo 240 Group A RETRO NEW WAVE You Are The End, Waveshaper
The Volvo 240 Group A touring car was an unprecedented and unexpected champion of the 1986 FIA European Touring Car Championship. Here s a tribute I made for it. These cars were powered by the unexpectedly stout B21ET Turbocharged single overhead cam inline 4 engine. It s rumored that they produced around 400bhp. Paired with a Getrag gearbox and a modified rear axle to contain the power, the drivetrain launched these cars to incredible speeds that won races. 1986 was the final year of these 2 door grocery getters competing in the Group A series of races. Due to the FIA regulations of the time, the manufacturer was required to produce 500 of these cars to sell on the public market. Of course, with this being costly to do, Volvo skirted these regulations by selling these 242 turbos with none of the body kit attached, and without the special equipment that were required to keep the engine from melting from the excessive boost being produced by the Garret Turbocharger.
