Looking back to shape the future progress and challenges in psychedelic research, therapy, and science communication. The INSIGHT 2021 opening talk will discuss the state, progress and emerging challenges of implementing psychedelics. I will elaborate and conceptually connect three areas: (1) academic research and science communication, (2) mental health care and therapist training, and (3) cultural factors in the context of open societies. How can a maturing psychedelic discourse criticize undesirable developments and optimistically build and institutionalize responsible therapies and selfdevelopment What is the role of a revised ethics of consciousness, Vergangenheitsbewältigung (coming to terms with your past) and a redefinition of integration in this process
