Sometimes It Pays To Sit Wide At Uluwatu December, 2021, RAW

As with many breaks, surfers at Uluwatu often push eachother deeper and deeper at the takeoff zones until it becomes impossible to actually make the wave. This is when it pays off to sit wide, like local surfer Mega Semahdi in the second clip. Although this strategy doesn t always work, if you re patient you can sometimes have a good amount of unridden waves come through with no one else to compete for them. The waves were excellent at Uluwatu on this day, especially for December. This doesn t happen too often during the wet season though, and it looks like the persistent Westerly winds and small swells are back for the foreseeable future.
