Sword Fighting Drills Jab Attack 5 Parries Rosa Mei
, swordfighting, swordcombat, kungfu Here is a basic Chinese sword fighting exercise I put together to help my students understand the basics of attack, defense, how to respond to a basic jab to the center of the body. The 5 parries in these exercises are commonly seen in Chinese sword forms but have not really been rigorously applied as part of jian training. Mostly we train tons of sword solo forms then maybe learn some partner forms with preset choreography. The disadvantage of this kind of training is that the student (while learning beautiful moves a la Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) never learns how to apply these moves in even basic sword combat. This should be integrated into more martial arts practice otherwise we really are just learning pretty forms with very little function. Form should equal function. The 5 parries shown in this video are 1) parry left 2) parry right 3) center line deflection parry (beng) 4) parry left and deflect 5) cloud sword then slice knee (drunken move) 加油 Jia you Rosa Mei
