The History of Jews on Miami Beach
In the beginning of Miami Beach s development, Jews were not welcome in most establishments and Jewish residents could only own property south of Fifth Street. Real estate covenants restricted many nonJewish home buyers from ever selling their property to Jews or Blacks. In the aftermath of World War II, cultural shifts and an emerging middleclass redefined Miami Beach from an elite winter resort catering to the wealthy to a tropical playground open to middleclass vacationers Jews and Gentiles alike. The Jewish influence is now reflected in all aspects of Miami Beach life.
