A Mincemeat Pie from 1747
A delicious 18th century mincemeat pie recipe. I have never tried anything that compares with this It tastes like a burst of sunshine and citrus. I can imagine how in the dead of winter this flavor would be a comforting reminder of summer. This recipe comes from 1747 cookbook The Art of Cookery by Hannah Glasse. It was a bestseller for a century after its initial publication The Art of Cookery was a mainstay in kitchens even during the Federal Period.
