Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness Review (1981, 1986) Georg Great

This is an indepth review, analysis of the DOS version of Ultima 1 made by the lovable Richard Garriot, aka Lord British. I was originally planning this to be a video covering the basics of what defines an RPG, but Ultima turned out to be Different from what I was expecting. If youre interested, the reason I ve chosen to make this a gradual journey of discovery style video is because I figured it to be the best way of reflecting the main appeal of this game the uncovering of ambiguous game mechanics through exploration. If I were to simply explain the game and how it works from the point of view of someone who understands it, this notion of discovery would be completely lost in the review. The gameplay system of Ultima is nothing without the experience of unraveling it, hence the structure of this video, in which I try to preserve the experience I personally got from the game and use it as a basis for the analysis in the second half of the video.
