Tribute to Esbjörn Svensson: Piano Solo Played on Guitar ( Did They Ever Tell Cousteau EST)
Tribute to the late Swedish musician, Esbjörn Svenssonn. Piano Solo on Did They Ever Tell Cousteau (Album: Seven Days of Falling Band: EST) Originally planned for a week ago today, June 14 (I freely admit to not getting it down in time). One of my favorite solos of all time on any instrument. Notes: E tends to be an unusual choice of root for a piano song and especially for a piano solo (He slays it of course). E is foundational on guitar (similar to C on the piano), which presents some cool opportunities for harmonics, open strings etc. A few of the licks went out of the range of the guitar. To compensate, I reworked a few measures here and there an octave apart. Can you hear where they are Some licks felt almost tailormade for sixstring. Others were a nightmare (but a fun challenge). I originally pictured it with metal tone, which worked great for a some parts but not others. In the end, light overdrive and phase felt better. It a
