Longtime Minnelli collaborators composer John Kander lyricist Fred Ebb (Liza With a Z, Cabaret, New York, New York) wrote this number for Minnelli s character, nightclub chanteuse Claire Dobie to perform at the seedy Club Americano in Tijuana, Mexico. A comedy adventure set in the 1930s, Lucky Lady was directed by Stanley Donen and written by Gloria Katz Willard Huyck. Cinematography by Oscarwinner Geoffrey Unsworth (Cabaret, 2001: A Space Oddysey, Tess). Starring Burt Reynolds, Gene Hackman, Robbie Benson. The level of expectation for this film upon release (Christmas 1975) was off the chart. None of them were met. But I have a soft spot in my heart (or head) for this movie.
