WHIRLY BIRD, Stephanie Trick Paolo Alderighi
Count Basie and his band recorded an explosively swinging album in 1957, with arrangements by Neal Hefti, entitled The Atomic Mr. Basie. The collaboration of Hefti and Basie was quite fruitful, as Hefti knew exactly how to put the band and its topflight soloists in the best possible light (in this case, Eddie Lockjaw Davis on tenor sax). We have been wanting to adapt the breathless and driving big band chart of Whirly Bird to fourhands piano for a long time and are happy to present this version.
