Okbaraji Alley
This work shows surreal side of South Korean contemporary society where still pro rapid development. Okparaji Alley is located in the center of the Seoul city, South Korea. Okbaraji is located infront of Seodaemun Jail, the notorious jail for cruel torture, bad conditions that build in 1910 s by Japanese Colonial government to suppress Koreans want independent. Okbaraji means supporting prisoners outside of the prison to help the them survive in the prison. The Okbaraji area was formed in 1920 s there were many buildings built in 1920 s30 s in the area. After the WW2, the Korean militant dictator government jailed many activists who want democratization. After 1990 s the place is changed to a museum but the alley is under development to built Luxury condominium called Lotte castle. The process is very violent, 45 of owners of the land against to the redevelopment but the city approved the construction. But there is no protection for tenants nor house owners.
