X Flare Alert: Sun Blasts Out Two Strong X Class Flares In Less Than 2 Hours August 5. 2024
Earthorbiting satellites have detected two strong Xclass solar flares on Aug. 5th. One came from departing sunspot AR3767 near the sun s western limb, the other from giant new sunspot AR3780 near the eastern limb. Shortwave radio blackouts occured over the Atlantic Ocean and the Americas as a result of the flares. More Xflares are in the offing especially from AR3780. EVENT: A flare is an eruption of energy from the Sun that generally lasts minutes to hours. Flares of this magnitude are not frequent. TIMING: The flares peaked at 05, 13:40 UTC and 05, 15:27 UTC respectively.
