This week marks exactly one year since Russian forces mounted a fullscale invasion of its Western neighbor, Ukraine an act of aggression which seemingly caught much of the world by surprise despite repeated actions and rhetoric indicating Moscows ill intent, which included the unopposed annexation of Crimea eight years prior. In contrast, the Western response, despite intensifying fractures that emerged amongst NATO member states which reached an alltimelow in the aftermath of its disengagement from Afghanistan clearly caught the Russian leadership by surprise as the once faltering NATO alliance managed to reemerge by tightening its ranks in firm support of Ukraines sovereignty and national integrity.
