While on tour, he was away and was not able to visit her in the hospital. He calls her on the phone to check up on her and wishes her well. After a short while, she died. Those calls were with his last talks with his mother. He wrote Long Distance Call in 2001 recalling his experience of calling his mother while she was dying in the hospital.
