New manager Patrick Vieira took charge of training on his first day in the job, as the players returned for preseason fitness training. Academy coaches Shaun Derry and Paddy McCarthy assisted with the session. Players such as Wilfried Zaha, Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp and a group of Academy players were there.
