Very Ornate 1891 Door Knob Set Restoration, Random Restoration
Welcome Today I will be continuing my hardware restoration spree by restoring an old ornate bronze door knob set, manufactured by Mallory Wheeler ( ) Co. in the 1890s. Old ornate hardware like this is usually has some damage, but the door knob I started to restore was in very rough shape. Not only was it rusted to the spindle, but the front of the design had significant damage from someone s previous attempt at removing the very rusty spindle. My door knob removal (from the spindle) attempt started with a two week soak in the rust remover, followed by a lot of penetrating fluid. In the end I was forced to use a cutting disc to cut off the spindle. I then used a grinding disc to grind the spindle flat prior to drilling it out. Then I filed the spindle until I was able to peel it off and eventually remove it. At this time I decided to purchase a second door knob to restore and complete the set with, and as well bought a couple of ornate brass rosettes that somewhat matched this de
