The transatlantic slave trade; how it benefitted West Africa

Mention of the slave trade between West Africa and the Americas always seems to dwell on the negative aspects. Modern countries such as Nigeria and Ghana though, owe much of their present success to what happened during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Their relative sophistication, compared with countries such as Mali and Rwanda, is largely due to the slave trade.
