How to Attach Your Mecate to Your Snaffle with Slobber Straps
Slobber straps are used to attach a mecate to a snaffle. They add extra (find this complete video in the Dennis Moreland Tack blog at weight to the bit ends of a mecate which causes the rein to drop instantly when either side of the mecate is released. In turn this releases the pressure on the bit sooner which gives your horse a quicker reward for giving to the pull. Horses understand and respond best to cues, and therefore training as a whole, when release of the cues occurs at the exact time the horse has given the correct responses. Slobber straps can help reach that goal by increasing the speed of the release. Once you get the hang of it, attaching slobber straps is quick and easy but it may seem difficult the first time.
