The PostImpressionist Emile Henri Bernard was a painter and writer, who had artistic friendships with Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Eugène Boch, and at a later time, Paul Cézanne. Impressionism was based, in its strictest sense, on the objective recording of nature in terms of the fugitive effects of color and light.
