Officers were dispatched to a Family Dollar at 2319 Castroville Road after an individual made two calls to 911 reporting that a male was standing outside the Family Dollar and had threatened the caller with a gun and a long knife. When officers arrived, they contacted the male, identified as 18yearold Kolton Chavez, whom the caller described. Chavez dropped a backpack on the ground before pulling out a large knife from his waistband and turning toward the officers. Chavez then started to advance toward officers as they backed up while making several attempts to deescalate the situation. Chavez did not comply with officers requests to drop his knife.
