US Secretary of State Antony Blinken speculated Israels public relations downfall since the start of its war on Gaza could be attributed to social media, saying social media coverage has completely dominated the narrative. In a conversation with US Senator Mitt Romney at the McCain Institutes 2024 Sedona Forum in Arizona, Blinken said the impact of images dominates which has a very, very, very challenging effect on the narrative. Blinken was responding to a question by Romney who asked why Israels PR has been so awful, noting the global perception of Israel and Hamas is all the other way round as Israel continues to lose support from the international community.
