Deep in Vogue is lifted off Malcom McLaren s 4th album Waltz Darling. It s sampling the voguing documentary movie Paris Is Burning which McLaren was very fond of. The film was unreleased back then but the NY voguing scene had snatched his imagination. The legendary Willi Ninja flew to London to record vocals for the resulting track. The film record depicted the underground dance and ball scene of the gay, AfricanAmerican and Latino NYC late 80s voguing Houses. McLaren s record was released two years before the film s official release. It was the first song ever recorded about vogueing (predating Madonna s Vogue ) and the documentary is now a cult classic.
