Snow, Sleet, and classic California Class V Upper Cherry One Day Mission
What an experience for my first time kayaking in California. Began early in the morning, after a night with temperatures down in the high 20 s, for the 11 mile hike up Kibbie Ridge. Breathtaking views of the Granite wonderland surrounding the Cherry s, and snow flurries that only got stronger as we increased elevation. The snow finally let up as we hiked down to the river to finish off a 6 hour hike with our kayaks, and we thought maybe the sun would peek out. Not even an hour later, as we bombed through miles of breathtaking scenery and Class IVV slides and boofs, another 30 minute sleet storm hit. Many hours of whitewater later, we arrived at the car around dark for a very full day of California kayaking. Upper Cherry is as good as it gets for a classic California kayaking experience.
