Nowadays there are plenty different implementations over JPA. Comparing to JDBC JPA has many advantages and can simplify development in some way. But everything comes with a price. Do we really need such huge frameworks to simplify our DB interactions The answer is No. All you need to know is SQL, MyBatis will do the rest with almost no extra coding.
