The White Rock Flood on Marine Drive June 9th 1999
On June 9th, 1999, White Rock was treated to a once in a 100year event According to meteorologists, two large thunderstorm cells moving towards each other collided over White Rock. While usually they move in one direction, these two merged, stalled and dropped unheard of amounts of rain over our city. As White Rock is on a hillside, all the water moved downhill and collected on Marine Drive adjacent our beach, unable to drain fast enough and caused a large flood that will be remembered for many years to come.
