Olivia de Havilland Screen Test for Max Reinhardts unrealized film Danton c. 1936
Extracted from the DVD copy of Max of A Midsummer Night s Dream produced and directed by Max Reinhardt. It features a delightfully green and spirited Olivia de Havilland, one of the greatest actresses to come out of Hollywood. Dame de Havilland passed away earlier this year in Paris at the age of 104. The original 35mm reel is stored at the Academy Film Archive. Beginning her career in 1935, de Havilland is perhaps best known for costarring with Errol Flynn in eight movies and for winning two Best Actress Oscars (for 1946s To Each His Own and 1949s The Heiress). The Olivia de Havilland Collection consists of one very unique item: a screen test for Danton, Max Reinhardts neverproduced followup to A Midsummer Nights Dream (1935). This 35mm nitrate reel was originally given to de Havilland by a Warner Brothers editor. In 2006, De Havilland donated the footage to the Academy Film Archive,
