Trail camera footage taken from the 29th May, shows Fangio, the alpha male comfortgrunting at his infant. A closeup of his face reveals a wound on his nose with the most likely explanation being that he sustained this injury during a maleonmale fight with Max some time ago. Although Max did not appear in this week s footage, previous footage has shown him with a lip injury from a maleonmale fight. Max moved into the group a short while ago. For over two decades, baboons have been absent from this particular area in Kwazulu Natal due to being persecuted. It has been noted that the baboon population in KZN is less that 10 of the expected baboon populations are highly fragmented and largely dependent on protected areas.
