George Benson On Broadway
Nació el 22 de marzo de 1943 en Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A los siete años, empezó a tocar el ukelele, a los ocho años, tocaba la guitarra en una discoteca los viernes y sábados por la noche. A los 10, grabó su primer disco sencillo, She Makes Me Mad, con RCAVictor, en Nueva York, bajo el nombre de Little Georgie. Se graduó en la escuela secundaria Schenley y en su juventud se dedicó al jazz instrumental junto al organista Jack McDuff. Fue admirador del guitarrista de countryjazz Hank Garland. Con 21 años grabó su primer disco como líder, The New Boss Guitar, con McDuff y su siguiente grabación fue Uptown con el George Benson Quartet, que incluía a Lonnie Smith en el órgano y a Ronnie Cuber en el saxo su grupo de rock actuó en varios centros nocturnos, en 1962 se dio a conocer cuando tocó en la Brother Jack McDuff s Band.
