Royal Irish platoon under fire, HERRICK 13, Helmand, 2010
Опубликовано: 18 окт. 2012 г. This footage shows soldiers of B Company, 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment, dealing with an insurgent ambush in Helmand in October 2010, close to the start of Operation HERRICK 13. Note the soldiers efforts to protect civilians who could otherwise be caught up in any return of fire. It was all part of a concerted campaign to clear the district of insurgents. The success of these Royal Irish men on the battlefield was matched by their ability to win the trust of the local Afghan people. At the 2011 Military Awards, the Duchess of Cambridge presented the Platoon Commander, Sgt Ryan McCready, with the award for being the UK s Most Outstanding Soldier.
