Australia Now Snow ice hail the size of a rock in Canberra People are hiding in basements
Severe hailstorms hit parts of Sydney on Wednesday afternoon, while unseasonable snow fell elsewhere in New South Wales. Hailstorms hit parts of the central business district and surrounding suburbs just after lunch. The Bureau of Meteorology said hail as well as showers are possible in the city in the early evening when the day was much colder than usual. While part of the state is suffering from another flood, the city of Oberon, located west of the Blue Mountains, recorded snowfall. Canberra was also covered with white dust, although of a slightly different nature. According to Weatherzone, it was not snow, but graupel, which is soft hail. More than 30, 000 people remain without power and dozens of schools across Adelaide were closed on Monday morning as South Australia clears from a massive storm that cleared over the weekend. The State Emergency Service says it received 1, 029 requests for help on Saturday and over 2, 000 calls to emergency services over the week
