Over 100 demonstrators on both sides shouted and even exchanged punches. While some criticized City Hall s handling of the crisis, others supported migrants. Counterprotesters also engaged, resulting in a tense standoff with the police present. The clash occurred amid a wave of 100, 000 migrants from the southern border, leading Mayor Adams to establish emergency shelters. Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa was arrested at the rally and compared himself to Gandhi.
