After initial studies with Ginette Martenot (a pianist and player of his brother s invention the ondes Martenot), Nigg studied harmony with Olivier Messiaen and counterpoint with Simone PléCaussade. In the mid1940s, Nigg was introduced to dodecaphonic writing and became one of the first French composers to work with that methodology.
