Dear Friend was the album closing track on Wild Life, the 1971 debut album of Paul McCartney Wings. Wild Life was the third studio album by Paul McCartney following the breakup of the Beatles. 24bit FLAC Audio Remaster Dear Friend, recorded during the Ram sessions, was apparently an attempt at reconciliation with John Lennon. It was certainly a timely followup to John s attack on Paul in the song How Do You Sleep from the album Imagine, which had apparently been in retaliation for Paul s perceived digs at John in Too Many People on Ram. Music critic Ian MacDonald used Dear Friend as a counterargument to the caricature of McCartney as an emotional lightweight.
