Frau Holle, Бабушка Холле (1963) DDR, DEFA Director: Gottfried Kolditz Frau Holle (also known as Mother Holle, Mother Hulda or Old Mother Frost ) is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in Children s and Household Tales in 1812 (KHM 24). Frau Holle (also known in various regions as Holla, Holda, Perchta, Berchta, Berta, or Bertha) was initially a preChristian female legendary figure who survived in popular belief well into the 19th century. The widow has an ugly and lazy daughter, Pechmarie, and a beautiful and hardworking stepdaughter, Goldmarie. Because Pechmarie is her real daughter, the widow clearly favors her and makes Goldmarie do all the work. Poor Goldmarie must also sit and spin all day by the well until her fingers bleed.
