GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Red Wings , Carter Earns 400th Career Assist
After a disappointing loss the previous evening on Long Island, the Penguins returned home to face the Detroit Red Wings in the second half of backtoback games coming out of the holiday break. The opening period was fantastic for Pittsburgh: Drew OConnor, Jeff Carter, and Jason Zucker (twice ) each scored, giving the home team a 40 lead into the first intermission. In the middle period, Detroit made things a little closer, with both Larkin and Veleno notching tallies. In the final period of regulation, Berggren scored with 5 minutes remaining to bring the visitors within one and then former Penguins player David Perron tied things up for his new club. In overtime, Walman scored for the Red Wings roughly midway through the extra frame. The Penguins power play went twofortwo in the loss. Jeff Carter earned his 400th career assist on Jason Zuckers second tally. Per Penguins PR, Carter is now the 100th player in NHL history to record 400 goals and 400 assists in his career.
