The Original Rockettes 1930
From the movie: KING OF JAZZ 1930 Inspired by the British Tiller Girls chorus Russell Markert created a similar group called the Missouri Rockets in St Louis in 1925 and in 1927 he moved them to the Roxy theater in New York where they became known as the Roxyettes. Then in 1932 they moved to the newly opened Radio City Music Hall and there they became The Rockettes and the rest as they say is history. I would say at least some of the girls seen here were part of the original Radio City Rockettes of 1932. These girls are really great. Someone once told me that the way you can tell if a tap chorus is really doing it s job is to close your eyes and see if it sounds like there s just one huge dancer taping. These girls certainly pass that test especially at the end.
