Viagra Boys: Vans Sidestripe Sessions, VANS

This week s session features music by Swedish postpunk band Viagra Boys. Viagra Boys performed two songs, Toad and Girls Boys, from the album Welfare Jazz, accompanied by art created by Luke McGarry. Viagra Boyz formed in 2015 in Stockholm, Sweden. After the release of two EPs, Viagra Boys released their debut fulllength album in 2018. Leading with the release of the tracks Sports and Just Like You, Street Worm showcased their daring and obtrusive postpunk. The album confronted misogyny and systemic issues. Their latest album, Welfare Jazz, tackles selfexamination and addiction. In an announcement for the album in late 2020, frontman Sebastian Murphy shared a personal message to give the album context. Murphy revealed, We wrote these songs at a time when I had been in a longterm relationship, taking drugs every day, and being an ahole.
