In Hausa country in Niger, the son of women blacksmiths come from the union of a woman from the group of blacksmiths and a nonblacksmith. The film shows their functions and activities as blacksmith griots. A griot from the blacksmiths sings in the streets of the village, recounting the fault of an individual against sexual morality and accompanying himself on the zari. The women give him presents to get him away. The griot models an effigy representing a woman who has transgressed the rules of sexual morality, and presents her in the village by recounting the offense while singing. In the bush, the blacksmiths gathered together perform a spell intended to punish with physical or psychological death a man who has seriously committed sexual offences. The culprit, represented by a wooden effigy, suffers three deaths in this ritual in which children participate.
