Ballerina with Alzheimers hears swan lake, begins to dance
Grab a tissue, brace yourself for an extreme case of goosebumps and enjoy what might be the most beautiful video of the year. It shows Marta C Gonzalez, a former prima ballerina who danced with the New York Ballet in the 1960s, sitting in her wheelchair at a nursing home in Valencia and listening to the finale of Swan Lake through headphones. As she does so, she begins to go gracefully through the choreography she learnt decades ago. And thats not even the most remarkable part. Ms Gonzalez, who sadly died last year, was suffering from Alzheimers disease at the time. While the video is from 2019, its only just been released by Asociación Música para Despertar, a Spanish charity that provides therapy for dementia patients by using important music from their lives. Its now gone viral, and there cant be a dry eye on the planet. The power of music is immeasurable, the charity said. May she rest in peace. Subscribe to RT RT
